What is AVCCAM?
AVCCAM is the name of Panasonic's professional video line up employing the MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 (AVCHD) codec. It employs SD/SDHC memory cards and SDXC memory cards (AG-AF100 series only) as recording media.

Which SD memory cards can be used ?
SD memory cards:512MB, 1GB, 2GB (FAT12, FAT16)
SDHC memory cards: 4GB, 6GB, 8GB, 12GB, 16GB, 32GB (FAT32)
SDXC memory cards: 48GB, 64GB (exFAT)

*Please use SD memory cards with a speed class higher than 6 when shooting in PH and HA mode.
*SD memory cards with a speed class 6 or higher are needed for shooting in VFR (Variable Frame Rate mode).

What is the Four Thirds system?
The Four Thirds system is a common standard for Digital Single Lens Reflex cameras advocated by Olympus and Eastman Kodak.

Image sensor size: approx. 17.3mm x 13mm
Flange focal distance (Flange back): 38.67mm

Main supporting manufacturers: Olympus, Eastman Kodak, Sigma, Leica, Panasonic
Back to top
What is the Micro Four Thirds system?
Micro Four Thirds is an extended standard for the Four Thirds System designed by Olympus and Panasonic.

Image sensor size: approx.17.3mm x 13mm
Flange focal distance (Flange back) :20mm

General information: The following are modifications made to the mount of the Micro Four Thirds System from the Four Thirds System.
1) Flange focal distance (Flange back) is reduced almost in half (approx.20mm)
2) Outer diameter is reduced by approx.6mm
3) Contact points between the lens and body are increased to 11 points
Back to top
What is the advantage of the Micro Four Thirds system?
The flange focal distance (Flange back) is shortened and the outer diameter of the mount is reduced by 6mm, while maintianing the same area for the image to pass through.
Therefore, it is possible to make the lens and body much smaller and more lightweight with the same image sensor as with the Four Thirds System.
Lenses designed for the Four Thirds System can be used with an adaptor attached to the body of the Micro Four Thirds System. (but not vice versa )
What is the size of the image sensor?
Image sensor size: approx. 17.3mm x 13mm
Much larger than traditional broadcast 2/3" sensors and almost the same size as 35mm motion film.

What is the flange focal distance (Flange back)?
The distance from the lens mount to the image sensor:
Micro Four Thirds system: 20mm
Four Thirds system: 38.67mm

Is there any way to use lenses other than those designed for Micro Four Thirds cameras?
As a result of its short flange focal distance, lenses designed for different mounts, such as Cinema lenses or lenses made for 35mm still cameras can be used with the appropriate adaptor, however, image quality varies depending on the lens used, so performance is not guaranteed.

*When using lens adaptors please turn "LENS CHECK" off to make video output available.
